The good news about online dating

Sat, 05 Nov 2011

Have a little faith eh?

It has always been strange to me why people would be against online dating. That was one of the drivers for me starting the website in fact. I wanted to change the stigma in the Gen Y age group when it came to looking online for dates or love. Sure, there are times when you might get someone you don't want talking to you sending you a message. But what's the difference between that and having a guy in a bar trying to hit on you that you couldn't be less interested in. In the online world however you can just ignore them & keep looking. At a bar you have to deal with it and either say something or physically go somewhere else to ‘get away' (I know the same can be said for girls going up to guys!)

Online you create your profile that is specifically outlining (in a condensed version) who you are and what you want. Those of the opposite sex do the same, and there you have it. You have a massive fish pond to find your match and in the meantime, date a few interesting folk. I can't see anything wrong in finding who you have been looking for i.e - height preference, body type, hair colour even...all at the touch of your fingers and click of a mouse.

Below are just a few statistics showing that I'm not the only one who thinks online dating works.

• In 2009 17% of married couples met online.
• 1 in 5 singles have dated online
• 1 in 5 singles in serious relationships met their partners online
• Currently there are about 1.5 million online dating accounts in Australia. This is expected to increase to almost 2 million by the year 2020.

So if you've been wondering how effective online dating really is, then stop doubting. It works. But like anything in life you have to put the effort in. Being active on Possibly Maybe, having a profile with as much information as possible about yourself and putting up a recent photo of you are all ways to attract more interest. Make today the day that you stop wondering and start believing so if you haven't yet created a profile - DO IT, and if you have, well then start using it more & enjoy the positive outcomes you see.

Yours in Peace & Love xx
